In the 2010s, singer-songwriter Peter Hernandez had a hold over the music industry. But recently, fans have been wondering what Bruno Mars is doing now.
If you were a fan of songs like "Lockdown in Heaven" or "Uptown Funk," you definitely remember the hold that Bruno Mars had over music in the mid 2010s. However, it seemed like the singer songwriter also known as Peter Hernandez completely disappeared after his 24K Magic Tour.
If you are a fan of Mars, then you're in luck. Bruno Mars did not disappear, but he did pivot from his soloist career. Now, he is part of a band named Silk Sonic, which he created alongside rapper Anderson .Paak. While the name Bruno Mars has been in the down low, he has been garnering success in this new format, which has earned him an opening set at the Grammys and a residency in Vegas.
What is Bruno Mars doing now?
At the beginning of 2021, Bruno Mars joined forces with American rapper Anderson .Paak to record an album together under the name "Silk Sonic."
In an interview with Billboard, Bruno Mars spoke about his experiencing joining "Silk Sonic" and what it's like to create music with .Paak.
"And we kept coming up with music. It felt like why you fall in love with music in the first place. And jamming with your buddy… There’s no plan, just working out the parts and trying to excite each other… that’s why this wouldn’t happen if it didn’t make sense and it didn’t feel natural and organic. This was a series of events that led us to ‘Man, why don’t we just do it?"
This year, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak began their residency titled "An Evening With Silk Sonic at Park MGM," in Las Vegas. If you were not aware of what this means, a residency in Las Vegas is a symbol of an iconic artist. Names like Celine Dion, Adele, Lady Gaga, and Drake have also hosted residencies in Sin City. While Bruno Mars may have appeared to fall off the mainstream, his momentum with Silk Sonic has been on the rise.
But that's not the only achievement for this duo in 2022.
Silk Sonic won International Group of the Year at the BRIT Awards, and was nominated at the Grammys for Song of The Year, Record of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Best R&B Song for "Leave the Door Open."
