This new Broadway production promises a contemporary take on Shakespeare's tragic love story.

The Cast

The production boasts a captivating young cast, headlined by rising stars Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor. Zegler, fresh off her Golden Globe-winning performance in West Side Story, brings her undeniable charisma to the role of Juliet. Opposite her, Connor, known for his breakout role in the television series Heartstopper, embodies the passionate Romeo. Their on-screen chemistry is already generating buzz, with many anticipating their portrayal of the star-crossed lovers.

Sam Gold, renowned for his innovative stagings, is sure to breathe new life into the Shakespearean tragedy. While staying true to the heart of the play, expect a contemporary aesthetic and a focus on the raw emotions that drive the narrative. Hints of a modern setting have been teased, which means that we could see a more Gen-Z approach to this romance story.

The Music & Movement

Grammy Award-winning musician Jack Antonoff, known for his work with artists such as Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey, will be contributing his musical talents to the production. As the lead singer of the band Bleachers, Antonoff has a reputation for creating innovative and emotive compositions that enhance the narrative of any project. His involvement promises a dynamic and memorable musical experience, perfectly complementing the visionary movement directed by Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh. Together, their collaboration is set to elevate the production to new artistic heights.

The Set Design

The production will boast scenic design by Dots, a two-time Tony Award nominee in 2024, with costume design by fellow 2024 Tony Award nominee Enver Chakartash. The lighting design will be crafted by Isabella Byrd, another two-time 2024 Tony Award nominee, while sound design will be handled by Cody Spencer, who also holds two nominations this year. Rachel Bauder will oversee production stage management.

Adding a layer of exclusivity, Romeo & Juliet will have a limited 16-week run, beginning with preview performances on September 26th and culminating in an official opening night on October 24th. The show will be staged at the historic Circle in the Square Theatre, an intimate, 360 venue that promises a captivating and up-close experience for theatergoers.
